Memorial services for Forrest D. Shaffer, 92, of Elgin, Iowa, were held Tuesday, Dec. 4, at First Baptist Church in Elgin with the Rev. Lee Boleyn officiating. Inurnment was held in the Illyria Cemetery, rural Elgin.

Leonard Funeral Home, Elgin, was in charge of arrangements.

Forrest died Saturday morning, Dec. 1, 2007, at home following a long illness.

Forrest D. Shaffer was born Dec. 6, 1914, in Pleasant Valley Township to John D. and Inez (Howard) Shaffer.

He graduated from Elgin High School in 1933.

On Aug. 18, 1935, Forrest was united in marriage with Darlene A. Yearous. They became the parents of three children.

Forrest was engaged in farming all of his life.

During his earlier years, he attended Illyria Community Church and Sunday school. After moving to Elgin in 1974, Forrest began attending First Baptist Church, where he continued to be a member.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Howard and Reynold Shaffer.

Forrest is survived by his wife, Darlene Shaffer of Elgin; his children Dalene (Jim) Whitford of Volga, Ruby J. Hild of Tempe, Ariz., and Robert (Terry) Shaffer of Elgin; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald (Geraldine) Shaffer of Vinton; several nieces and nephews.
