Mrs. Chris Jahncke passed away at the family home in this city Tuesday evening, May 18, at 9:30 after an illness extending over the past two years. The last services will be held from the home Friday at 1 p. m. conducted by the Salvation Army.
Sophia Hahn was born in McGregor, Iowa, February 21, 1864 and grew to womanhood in that place where she was united in marriage with Chris Jahncke. Soon after their marriage they removed to Postville and some years later came to Oelwein which has since been their home.
They were the parents of twelve children, of whom five preceded her in death. Seven children with the husband and father are left to mourn their loss. They are Mrs. Emma Swartz, Oelwein, Mrs. Kate Hoppes, Fairbank, Ed, Fred, Harry, Vern and Alvin Jahncke, of this city. There are also three sisters and two brothers.
She was a member of the Salvation Army and faithful in all the duties of life. In February she submitted to an operation which made evident that she was suffering from cancer of the stomach which was the cause of her death. Interment will be made in the Kint/Kent Cemetery near Coytown.
