Funeral services for Allen E. Johnson, 81, of Clermont were held Wednesday, Oct. 31, at West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont, Iowa, with the Rev. Dwight Albers officiating.

A Masonic service was held Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Schutte's Clermont Chapel.

Burial was in God's Acre Cemetery, Clermont. Pallbearers were David Johnson, Phil Ruckdaschel, Jim Rowland, Mike Helgerson, Scott Blockhus, Blake Hackmann, Jerry Anderson, Shane Anderson, John Gass, Dave Schott and Jerry Kelly.

Schutte's Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.

Allen died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union, following a brief illness.

Allen Eugene Johnson was born Oct. 10, 1926, to Henry Kornelius and Elvira Rachel (Rowland) Johnson on the family farm northwest of Clermont. He was baptized and confirmed at West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont.

Allen attended Dover No. 6 rural school and graduated from Clermont High School in 1944.

He began working for Merrill Gunderson on the farm and then for Clermont Brick and Sand Company. Shortly after that, Allen purchased the hardware store and renamed it Clermont Hardware, which he operated for almost 60 years.

Allen was active in his community and in his church. He was a member of West Clermont Lutheran Church and the Masonic Lodge in Clermont, and he served on the Clermont City Council.

Preceding Allen in death were his parents and two brothers, Howard and DeWayne.

Survivors include his sister, Arlene Ruckdashel of Clermont; his brother, Robert "Mick" (Linda) Johnson of Clermont; many nieces and nephews.
