Funeral services for Clarence H. Gager, 81, of Dodge Center, Minn., formerly of Hawkeye, were held Thursday, Oct. 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hawkeye, Iowa, with the Rev. William Horn officiating.

Interment was in Bethel Cemetery, rural Hawkeye. Pallbearers were Jamey Gager, Joey Gager, John Gager Jr., Todd Ohm, Terry Ohm and Brian Whittle.

Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner, was in charge of arrangements.

Clarence's death occurred Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, at home in Dodge Center, following a lengthy illness.

Clarence Henry Gager, son of Alva and Alta (Schnor) Gager, was born Jan. 9, 1926, in Fayette County. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye and later confirmed there on April 6, 1941.

He received his education in the rural schools near Hawkeye.

On Oct. 30, 1946, Clarence was married to Leona Bates; they were later divorced. On April 16, 1973, he was united in marriage with Janice (Welch) Stedman.

Clarence farmed in the Hawkeye area for many years. He later operated a furniture shop in Elkader.

Clarence lived for several years in Stewartville, Minn., and most recently had made his home with a grandson and family in Dodge Center.

He had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye.

Preceding Clarence in death were his parents; his wife, Janice; a stepdaughter, Rita Gager; and a grandson.

Survivors include a son, John (Lucy) Gager of Elkader; two daughters, Doris (David) Ohm of Penitas, Texas, and Diane (Daniel) Pischke of Hawkeye; three stepdaughters, Gilda (Dean) Opperman of Hawkeye, Deanna (LeRoy) Nelson of Elkader, and Lori Stedman-Huff of Gypson, Colo.; and a stepson, Roger Stedman of Sumner.

Additional survivors include 10 grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Velma (Harmon) Hildebrandt of Sumner and Arlene Shurtleff of Waucoma; nieces and nephews.
