MRS. JOHN (Mary Kathreen Walthers) FALB

Rites Held For Mrs. John Falb

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 6, at 2:00 p.m. at the Elgin Baptist church for Mrs. John Falb. Rev. Frederick Ludwig of the St. Paul's Lutheran church of Postville and Dr. Arthur Ittermann of the Baptist Church of Elgin officiated. Mrs. Falb passed away at home on Wednesday morning, March 3, at the age of 80 years.

Mary Kathreen Walthers, daughter of Adam and Kathreen Walthers was born in Underalba, Germany, December 21, 1872. At the age of 11 years she came with her parents to America. Their first home was at Clermont, and later they lived in Elkader.

On October 30, 1894 she was married to John Falb and their entire married life was spent in Elgin. Six children were born to this union: Leo, who died at the age of three years; Herbert, West Union; George, Elgin; Walter, Elgin; John, Jr., Postville; and one daughter Marie, (Mrs. Emmet L. Morris) of Maywood, Illinois.

She was first of all a home-maker and possessed the rare gift of hospitality. She was an understanding mother and a faithful friend. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Elkader, a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Elgin Cemetery Association, a member of the Kensington Club of Elgin, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mr. and Mrs. Falb celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary October 30, 1952.

She is survived by her husband, five children, fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. F. C. Schultz of Postville, and Mrs. Louis Stolbaum of St. Olaf. One son Leo preceded her in death, also one brother, William Walthers of Elkader and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Huebner, Postville and Mrs. L. D. Smith, Elkader.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Decatur, Illinois, Maywood, Illinois, West Bend, Aplington, Mason City, Dubuque, Collins, Waukon, Elkader, West Union Postville, St. Olaf, Clermont, Wadena, Garnavillo, Marquette, Guttenberg, Pierson.
