Elizabeth (Basham) Schreiner was born Oct. 14, 1919, to Ilo and Nina Basham in Independence.

After graduating from Upper Iowa University, Fayette, with a teaching certificate, Betty taught elementary school in Webb, Dumont, and West Union.

On May 2, 1943, she married Wesley Schreiner.

Her family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1972, having previously lived in Green Bay, Wis., and Sioux Falls, S.D.

Preceding Betty in death were a grandson, a brother and a sister.

Survivors include her husband, Wesley Shreiner of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Jane (Rick) of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, Scott of Owatonna, Minn., and Richard (Sandra) of Sioux Falls, S.D.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Roberta, of Iowa Falls.

In lieu of flowers, the Schreiner family suggests directing memorials to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha or to St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
