MRS. LUCIAN HEWITT (Marjorie Lovira Whitford) APPELMAN

Marjorie Lovira was born February 4, 1901 at the old Whitford home a mile west of Volga, the seventh child of Henry and Lovira (Sanborn) Whitford. She received her education in the public school at Volga, and at Upper Iowa College at Fayette, earning a Normal Training certificate there. She earned diplomas from both piano and speech departments. She gave piano and speech lessons through several years, and taught school at Fayette, Harcourt, West Union, and Clermont.

On August 19, 1925 she was united in marriage to Lucian Hewitt Appelman at her parents' home. She and her husband spent twenty-three years working the Appelman farm a mile north of Clermont, then moved to Clermont where they made their home.

After a short time residing in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa she died there on Wednesday morning March 8, 1989 at the age of eight-eight.

She is survived by nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971, brothers Guy, Henry (Ted) and James Whitford, sisters Eva Humphrey, Lura Sprague and one in infancy.

Casket Bearers: Clark Whitford, Diz Dean, Wayne Gilson, Douglas Appelman, Norman Gilbert and Vernon Anderson.
