LUCIAN HEWITT APPELMAN

Lucian Appelman Interred July 5

Services were held from the Elgin Funeral home Monday, July 5 at 2:00 p.m. for Lucian Appelman who died Saturday, July 3, 1971 at the Postville Community Hospital. Interment was in God's Acre cemetery, Clermont. The Rev. Curtis Webster officiated.

Lucian Hewitt Appelman was born July 11, 1894, the youngest son of Elias and Mabel Stewart Appelman. He received his education in the Clermont public schools and attended Highland Park College in Des Moines. He also studied violin at Upper Iowa College, Fayette, under Wynone Farquhar and Theo. Doolittle.

Until 1943 he lived on the farm north of Clermont, purchased by his grandfather in 1854. At age 54 he moved to Clermont and spent 20 years in building work, with the exception of three years he was incapacitated following a heart attack. The past few years he had worked at furniture and refinishing as well as light carpenter work. He was also a skilled Lapidary.

Mr. Appelman was a member of the Castalia United Methodist church.

He is survived by his wife, whom he married August 19, 1925, two sisters and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
