Rites Held For Otto Vasby

Funeral services were conducted for Otto Vasby Saturday, May 26, at West Clermont Lutheran Church by the Rev. John D. Kronlokken. Interment was made at God's Acres cemetery at Clermont, the local Legion Post provided the honor guard and conducted the military tribute, including the presentation of the flag to the family.

Otto Andrew Vasby, the son of Lars and Ragnhilde Vasby, was born January 15, 1895 at Eldorado. The family moved to Clermont in 1903 where Otto attended school and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

He served his country in World War I, serving 21 months overseas. During his duties, he was gassed and was hospitalized over a month. He returned to Clermont after having been discharged on May 30, 1919.

He took up the trade of painter and decorator. In 1920 he married Sophie Reinardson of Eldorado. There were two children in their family and they continued to live in Clermont.

He has been on the church board, a member of the American Legion, and has served the church and community with his talents as a painter.

Otto has been in ill health for the last two years, yet continued doing some work on a semi-retired basis. He died at his home May 23, 1962, at the age of 67 years, four months, eight days.

He leaves to mourn his departure besides his wife, Sophie, a daughter Norma, (Mrs. Arthur Blockhus) of Cedar Rapids, and a son Ray, of Baltimore, Maryland; also his sister Andine of Clermont, and a brother Wilhelm in California. There are eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
