Mrs. Richard (Georgia Casper) Strauch

Funeral services for Georgia Strauch, 89, formerly of Elgin, were held Thursday, Dec. 22, 1983 at St. Paul's Methodist Church, Elgin. The Rev. Tom Parrott officiated. Burial was in the Elgin Cemetery. Muehlethaler's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Georgia Strauch, the daughter of Sheilds and Ida (LeRoy) Casper, was born March 27, 1894 in Urbana, IL. She died Dec. 19, 1983 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital, Decorah.

She married Richard P. Strauch Feb 11, 1914 in Urbana, IL. They moved to Elgin in 1914 and purchased the Elgin Echo in 1923. She and Richard published the paper for many years.

Her husband died in 1973 and on July 1 of that year she moved to the Barthell Eastern Star Home, Decorah, where she made her home until her death.

She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, the Elgin Ladies Study Club and was a member of the United Methodist Church Women organization.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Hugh, in 1951, a grandson, Roger Waters; a granddaughter Deborah Schultz; and eight brothers and sisters.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Paul (Kathryn) Waters, Postville, Mrs. Margaret Waters, Decorah and Mrs. Robert (Betty) Schultz, Luana; a sister, Mrs. Lucille Baker, Addison, IL; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
