EUGENE BUTIFKOFER ACCIDENT VICTIM

Eugene Butikofer, 38, of Clermont, was killed Saturday night when the snowmobile he was driving hit a barbed wire fence on a farm three miles south of Castalia.

Butikofer was on an outing with 30 members of the Hiawatha Hilltoppers Snowmobile club on the Eugene Schroeder farm when he left other members of the group for a short time about 9:00 p.m. He apparently failed to see a barbed wire fence and suffered a broken neck when he struck the obstacle.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at West Union hospital.

Mrs. Butikofer also was on the outing, but was not riding with her husband at the time the accident happened.

Butikofer was an employee of Schwan Dairy of West Union. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, two daughters and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Butikofer of Clermont.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at West Clermont Lutheran church.
