Marilyn Wander

Services were conducted for Marilyn J. Wander, 61, at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hope Lutheran Church in Riverside, California by the presiding minister, Peter A. Pettit. The organist was Sharon Bongfeldt. She died of a brain tumor Monday, March 15, 1999 at Community Care and Rehabilitation Center in Riverside, California. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. today at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Morturary in Riverside. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Wander, was born September 16, 1937 in Decorah, Iowa, [the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Szabo, of Castalia, Iowa]. She lived in Riverside, California for 39 years. She was baptized October 1, 1937. She was a homemaker and a member of Hope Lutheran Church. She belonged to the Riverside Braille Club, the Indoor Sports Club in Riverside and the San Bernardino Lighthouse for the Blind. She enjoyed bowling and traveling.

She is survived by her husband Duane, of Riverside; two daughters, Kim (Roger) Weatherred of Dumas, Texas, and Cindy (Trevor) Morales of Riverside; a son, Randy (Anita) Wander, of Corona; 10 grandchildren: Randall Corey Wander; Brandy Dutton; Lindsay Coulston; Melissa, Shawna, Tanya and Megan Morales; Nicole, Jayme and Adam Weatherred; one great grandson: Blake Guszinski; two sisters: Diane Buddenberg of Castalia, Iowa and Darlene Schultz of Decorah, Iowa; and seven brothers: Bill, Eugene and Leon Szabo, all of Postville, Iowa, Edward Szabo of Monona, Iowa, Robert and Victor Szabo, both of Castalia, Iowa and Dale Szabo of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law: Gerald (Sandy) Wander and Keith Wander of Clermont, Iowa and two sisters-in-law: Linda (Jerry) Anderson of Clermont, Iowa and Margaret (Gene) Wander of Mason City, Iowa.

Pallbearers were Bill Buddenburg, Earl Smith and Edward, Victor, Robert and Eugene Szabo.

Taken in part from a Riverside, California newspaper and a memorial card from the funeral home. Her husband, Duane Wander, was a son of Joseph and Celia (Martie) Wander of Fayette County. Wander's and Szabo may be found in Winneshiek County also.
