Gerald Joseph Wander

Gerald Joseph Wander, the son of Joseph Henry Wander and Celia Clara (Martie) Wander, was born October 20, 1933 in Fayette County, Iowa. He passed away Sunday, December 16, 2001, at his home near Clermont following a lengthy illness. He had reached the age of 68 years, one month, and 26 days.

He graduated from the Clermont Schools. Gerald served in the U. S. Army from 1954 to 1956. On July 8, 1972 Gerald was married to Sandra Elaine Schave. They farmed west of Clermont. Gerald and Sandy started a redemption center in Clermont and then turned it into a full recycling program. They received the Governor's Leadership Award in recognition of outstanding achievement in community development. From there they turned their efforts to developing a grocery store for Clermont. Gerald also worked as a carpenter before retiring.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Robert "Bobby" Lantz, and a brother, Gene Wander.

Surviving is his wife, Sandy, a son, Michael Lantz and his wife, Cathy, of Waterloo, Iowa, and a daughter, Lori and her husband, Scott Bushman of Holy Cross, Iowa, five grandchildren, Tonette Hansen and Crystal Smith and Tifani, Tyler, and Tony Bushman. Also surviving are two brothers, Duane Wander and fiancee, Pam McInnes of Riverside, California, and Keith Wander of Clermont, Iowa, a sister, Linda and her husband, Jerry Anderson also of Clermont, a sister-in-law, Margaret Wander of Mason City, Iowa, two great grandchildren, Robbie and Bobby Joe, and several nieces and nephews.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.
