Sister of Ossian woman died

Ella Saboe, 88, of West Union, died Thursday, December 13, 2001, in the Good Samaritan Home, West Union, after a long illness. Funeral services were Saturday, December 15, at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union, at 1:30 p.m., with associate minister Sue Frederick officiating. Burial was in First Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ossian.

Casket bearers were Lonnie Brekke, Tim Brugman, Scott Cannon, Britt Dyke, Gene Engelhardt, Ben Wolfs, and Abe Wolfs. Organist was Katie Kamaus, and vocalist was Dennis Wolfs accompanied by Brittany Brugman.

Ella Gurina (Hilgerson) Wolfs Saboe, daughter of Andrew and Helga (Lervold) Hilgerson, was born November 12, 1913, at Clermont, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in Stavanger Lutheran Church rural Ossian. She attended Dover No. 6 Country School.

On November 25, 1933, Ella was united in marriage to Otto Wolfs at the parsonage of the Stavanger Lutheran Church. This marriage was blessed with four children. They lived and farmed near Clermont until Otto's death in October of 1967. Ella continued to live on the farm with her youngest son until 1971.

On November 27, 1971, Ella was united in marriage to Lloyd Saboe at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They lived in West Union with Lloyd doing carpentry work and Ella, along with her sister Edna, cleaning houses. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church since 1973. Lloyd died in May of 1991. Ella lived in her own home until December of 1992, when she entered the Good Samaritan Center in West Union.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otto; her husband, Lloyd; three brothers: Myron Hilgerson, Henry Hilgerson, and Howard Hilgerson; a sister, Gladys Kleppe; and a great-granddaughter, Tiffany Brugman.

Surviving Ella are her daughter Eileen and husband Melvin Molokken, West Union; three sons: Dennis and Carolee Wolfs of Bettendorf, IA; Lyle and Virginia Wolfs of Seattle, WA; and Larry and Barbara Wolfs of Spring Grove, MN; four sisters: Myrtle Mork of Decorah; Edna Peterson, West Union; Arlene Sutter, West Union; and Thelma Schwinefus, Ossian; two brothers: Clarence Hilgerson, Postville and Adrian Helgerson, Auburn, IA; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
