Rites Are Held For E. Westcott

Funeral services for Elizabeth Westcott were held Saturday, Oct. 22, 1983 at 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville. The Rev. David Palm officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Elizabeth E. Westcott, daughter of Jacob and Minnie (Heckman) Hangartner, was born July 19, 1916 on the home farm near Postville Junction. She died Oct. 20, 1983 at the St. Francis Nursing Home in LaCrosse, Wis.

She was baptized Aug. 24, 1916 at the Golden Wedding Anniversary celebration of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Franz Hangartner. On Aug. 24, 1930 she was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church by Rev. Garten.

Elizabeth graduated from the Postville High School in 1934. She taught in the rural schools of Clermont Township, in Monona and for several years at Hawkeye.

On Feb. 8, 1939 she was united in marriage with James L. Westcott by the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig in Postville. They farmed northwest of Hawkeye until the death of her husband in 1969. She then moved to the Kjosa farm, Clermont, where she helped care for her mother. After her mother's death in 1975, she moved to Onalaska, Wis. where she made her home for the past few years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, Cleon, Alpha, Jacob and Oscar, and a sister, Bessie.

Surviving are a brother, Richard Hangartner, Postville, two sisters, Gladys Lubke, Onalaska, Wis. and Isabell (Mrs. Harris Kjosa) of Clermont and many nephews and nieces.
