Rites Held For Mrs. Flora Walther
Funeral services for Mrs. Flora Ann Walther were held at the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church, Elkader, at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 31. Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.
Flora Ann Walther, age 68 years, five months and ten days, died May 27, 1954, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Walther at Garnavillo. She had been in failing health for the past year and a half. On the morning of her death, she was enroute with Mr. and Mrs. K. J. Stiehl to visit in the Leo Walther home when she was stricken with a heart attack and died shortly after being taken into the home of her son.
Flora Ann Walther, the daughter of Gus and Louisa Kohler Boyer, was born in Elgin, Iowa, December 17, 1885, and lived there until her marriage. She graduated from the Elgin high school.
On October 27, 1910, she was united in marriage to William A. H. Walther and moved to Elkader, where she resided until her death. One son, Leo, was born to this union. She was a member of Peace Evangelical and Reformed church, the Women's Guild, and had served as its president, and the Dorcas society of which she had been an officer. She also was a member of the Eastern Star and had been worthy matron, the Civic club and the East Side Cemetery association.
Surviving are her son, Leo, and his wife, Fern, and two grandchildren, Lynne Ann and Lee Ellen. Two sisters, Mrs. H. D. Yack and Mrs. Grace Evans of Elgin, Iowa.
Her husband preceded her in death in the year 1945.
