Westgate Ia News
The death early Thursday morning of William L. Rueber, while not unexpected, saddened the entire community and sincere sympathy was extended to the bereaved family and relatives. The deceased was born in Strassburg Germany June 14th 1879 and at an early age emigrated with his parents to Wisconsin and the following year near Maynard, Iowa. February 18th 1903 he was united with nettie Pleggenkuhle in holy matrimony and to this union were born four children-LeRoy, Theodore, Blanche and Frederick. Besides his own immediate family he is survived by his parents John Rueber and wife of Maynard, one sister, Mrs Louis Bender fo Chicago, and ten brothers-Jake and Chris of Brush Colorado, August of Battle Creek Iowa, Martin of Chicago, and Charles, John, Gust, Herman and Albert of Fayette Co. For two successive years Mr Rueber rendered efficient service as president of the Westgate Co-operative Shipping Association, holding the position from its first organization until his ill health caused him to tender is resignation. He was a victim of streptococceus infection of the blood which affected all organs of the body and finally resulted in Bright's disease. Although his health had been failing perceptibly for some time his condition had not seemed alarming until february of this year, since then he grew weaker until death released him. Throughout his illness one of his greatest pleasures was to be visited and converse with his acquaintances. Definite plans were in operation for the erection of a new, modern residence on the farm west of the city limits and he always expressed reluctance at the idea of its noncompletion. Possessing the admirable qualities of ability, industry and integrity he was by virtue of these traits held in high esteem. His family have lost a devoted husband and father; the community an honoured and respected citizen. The funeral was held at two o'clock Sunday afternoon from the German Luthern church which was crowded with those who came to pay the last tribute of affection and esteem. The services were conducted by Rev. Uhlmann assisted by Rev H Steger of Fairbank who spoke in English. The floral offerings were unusually beautiful. Interment was made in the Luther cemetary in a steel vault.
