WEST UNION - Funeral services for Dale F. Kelly will be 11 am. Tuesday, June 17, at the Bethel Presbyterian Church, West Union, with the Rev. Carl Stoldt officiating. Burial will be in the West Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. today (Monday) at the Leonard Funeral Home in Elgin and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Mr. Kelly, 72, died Friday afternoon June 13, 1997, at the Good Samaritan Home in Postville, following an extended illness.
He was born July 30, 1924, in Wadena, the son of Arthur and Susan Robbins Kelly. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1942. On Dec. 15, 1943, he married Lois Miller at the First Baptist Church in Elgin. Mr. Kelly was a retired district manager for Interstate Power Company in West Union and a longtime member of the West Union Fire Department and City Council. He spent his last 12 years of retirement driving a school bus for North High School in West Union where he also served as a scorekeeper, timer and official host of countless athletic events for many years. He was recently honored by the Iowa Football Coaches Association with a Distinguished Service Award for his years of service to the school. He was a past member of the West Union Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church where he served as elder, Sunday school teacher, and volunteer. He also devoted many years as a Boy Scout leader.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; two daughters, Nancy (John) Hill of Toddville, and Rhonda (Randy) Schmelzer of Garnavillo; three sons, Terry of Bullhead City, Ariz., Ted (Debbie) of Lutz, Fla., and Scott (Holly) of Anamosa; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be given in his name to the pipe organ fund of Bethel Presbyterian Church, West Union.
