WEST UNION - Funeral services for Sue E. Bovis of Clinton and formerly of West Union, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept 9, at the First Methodist Church, West Union. Burial will be in the Elgin Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday at the Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union.
Mrs. Bovis, 103, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997, in the Wyndcrest Nursing Home in Clinton.
She was born Dec. 3, 1893, in West Union, the daughter of John Thomas and Anna Montgomery Cox. On Dec 23, 1915, she married Walter Bovis in West Union. He died in 1946. Mrs. Bovis was a secretary for the Great Western Railroad in Oelwein, and Torkelson Brothers of Elgin, and had worked in the Fayette County Courthouse in West Union. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and enjoyed traveling and visiting with her family. She had maintained good health until one week before her death.
Survivors include two sons, Walter, Jr. (Virley) of Greensboro, N.C., and James (Nan) of Clinton; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; one son, George; three sisters; four brothers; and a great-grandson.
