OELWEIN - Funeral services for Ardis B. McCallum Dempsey will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Frederick C. Fangmann officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Sunday at, the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, where there will be a parish rosary at 7 p.m.
Mrs. Dempsey, 92, died Thursday evening, Nov. 13, 1997, at Grandview HealthCare Center, Oelwein, after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 8, 1905, in Britt, the daughter of Andrew and Estella (Wilson) Johnson. She married Leo J. Dempsey on Oct. 16, 1971, in Oelwein. He died Nov. 10, 1988. Mrs. Dempsey was a longtime Oelwein resident where she worked at Wilson's and City Laundry for many years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and had been a Grandview HealthCare resident the last 15 years.
Survivors include one son, Lewis McCallum of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Mark and Victoria; five great-grand-children; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; one daughter, Elaine Nelson; three grandchildren; two brothers; and two sisters.
A memorial fund has been established in her name at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
