Roland "Red" Strempke, Sr
WESTGATE - Funeral services for Roland (Red) R. Strempke Sr. will be 11 am., Monday, Sept. 30, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner, with the Rev. John Purtell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m., Sunday, at the Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, where there will be a rosary and scripture service at 7 p.m. Friends may also call from 9 until 11 am. Monday at the church.
Mr. Strempke, 67, died Thursday morning, Sept 26, 1996, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, following a short illness.
He was born June 22, 1929, in Independence, the son of Raymond and Neva (Minton) Strempke. He attended Triumph Country School. He served with U.S. Armed Forces in the Korean War. In 1954, he married Leola (Lee) C. Jones at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Sumner. Mr. Strempke worked at the John Deere foundry 32 years. He also owned the Cheyenne Club from September 1987 to October 1991, and Four H Trailers from 1993 to present. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Sumner Knights of Columbus, Sumner American Legion Post, and John Deere Local 838.
Survivors include his wife, Leola of Westgate; four sons, Roland "Roger" Jr. (Carma) of Westgate, Scot (Sandy) of Sumner, David (Marlys) of Allenhurst, Ga., and Clint of LaCrosse, Wis.; three daughters, Angela (Rick) Ohlendorf of Sumner, Lisa (Roger) Wilker of New Hampton, and Dawn Johnston of Charlotte, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; his mother, Neva Strempke of Sumner; two aunts; and four cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond; and grandparents.
