OELWEIN - Funeral services for Daryl W. Wells will be 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Grace United Methodist Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Robert Dagit officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens rural Hazleton. Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, where Ross Reid Post 9 will conduct a military memorial service at 7 p.m. Friends may also call after noon Friday at the church.
Mr. Wells, 64, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 15, 1933, in West Union, the son of Bernyl Eugene and Adele Margaret (Leik) Wells. He graduated from West Union High School in l951. He served with the U.S. Navy Air Force from 1952 to 1956. On Aug. 15, 1956, he married Jean Davis at Bethel United Presbyterian Church, West Union. Mr. Wells was an inspector at Donaldson's in Oelwein for 37 years, retiring in February 1995. He was a lifetime member of the Oelwein American Legion Ross-Reid Post 9.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; two daughters, Debra (Ed) Brannon of Waucoma, and Denise (Joe) Higgins of Oelwein; five grandchildren; one brother, Derwood (Darlene) of Clear Lake; two sisters, Marjorie (Wayne) Schwinefus of Decorah, and Marlene (Russell) Ungerer of Fayette; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Janeen Schott.
A memorial fund has been established.
