OELWEIN - Funeral services for Laura C. Scheckel will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Frederick Fangmann officiating. Burial will be in the Strawberry Point Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Friday, at the Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, where there will be a 3:30 p.m. rosary and a 7:30 p.m. scripture service.
Mrs. Scheckel, 92, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters, Oelwein, after a short illness.
She was born Aug. 16, 1905, in Strawberry Point, the daughter of Henry and Josephine (Schocker) Anton. She married Elmer P. Scheckel Feb. 10, 1931, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Strawberry Point. Mrs. Scheckel was a homemaker and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its rosary society.
Survivors include two sons, Leroy (Bertha) of Hazleton, and Julius of Oelwein; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Rose Gillespi of Estherville, and Margaret Anton of Strawberry Point.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; one brother, Henry, Jr.; five sisters, Katherine, Elisabeth, Anna, Mary and Agnes; and a grandson, Tony.
A memorial fund has been established.
