MARGARET A. VAWTER
OELWEIN - Funeral services for Margaret Arlene Vawter will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Grace United Methodist Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Robert Dagit officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Wadena. There will be no visitation. Hintz-Geilenfeld funeral Home, Oelwein, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Vawter, 74, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at Mercy Living Plus, Oelwein, after a lengthy illness. She was born May 9, 1923, in Wadena, the daughter of Albert and Bess (Green) Morse. She married Donald Whittenbaugh on June 26, 1940 in West Union. He died Dec. 9, 1949. She married James V. Vawter on June 21, 1954 in Bellevue. Mrs. Vawter worked at Singer Sewing, Disco Mart, Spurgeon's and Connor's in Oelwein and from 1954 to 1962 owned and operated a grocery store in Calmar.
Survivors include her husband, James; one daughter, Penny McComb of Maynard; a sister, Mabel Larson of Elkader; a stepdaughter, Barbara Wegner of Oelwein; two grandsons; three step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; one brother, Harold Morse; a son-in-law Donald McComb; and a stepson-in-law, Wayne Wegner.
A memorial fund has been established for Heart of Iowa Hospice of West Union.
