William Asher Bratt was born March 2, 1841 in Hoosick, Rensler County, New York. Died January 22, 1900. Moved with his parents to Wisconsin. Enlisted in the Union Army in the fall of 1861 in Company H 14th Wisconsin Infantry and took part in the battle of Shiloh, 2nd battle of Corrith, seige of Vicksburg and several other engagements and was mustered out of service October 9, 1865 at Mobile, Alabama. He was married to Electa J. Proctor April 12, 1868. To them were born four children who survive their parents. Two sisters and other relatives mourn his loss. He was converted and joined the regular Baptist church in 1877. His wife died November 9th, 1897. He was a charter member of the W. W. Warner Post G. A. R., the first post in this county. He was a member of Center Post when he died. He was also a member of the M. W. of A. who had charge of the funeral. He was a devoted father, a kind neighbor and a friend to all. His funeral services were held in the G. A. R. hall January 24th at 1 p.m., conducted by Rev. E. H. Gillet, pastor of the Baptist church at West Union. A very large concourse of people were present to pay their tribute of respect to a departed comrade, neighbor and friend. His cousin L. A. Bratt was here from South Dakota.
