Jeanne Gail (Jenkins) Hurst (1940-2006)

Jeanne Gail Jenkins was born in Oelwein on September 23, 1940 to Benjamin and Dorothy (Schneider) Jenkins. She graduated Oelwein High in 1959 and received the Betty Crocker Homemaker's Award. She married Robert Hurst and lived most of her life in Oelwein. Jeanne was a florist for over 30 years until retiring due to Parkinson's disease. (she was diagnosed on the day Michael J. Fox announced he had it) She also was the second person in Iowa to have the DBS (Deep Brain Stimulator) implant, just 12 hours after it was approved by the FDA. On Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, she was able to fulfill her wish to have her body donated to the University of Iowa to help further studies. Surviving her memories are her husband of 48 years, Robert and daughter, Suzette and her husband, Michael A. Foster of Muscatine.
