Lorraine Houg, 85, Elgin
Lorraine Marie Houg, 85, of Elgin, died Thursday morning, July 13, 2006, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, following a brief illness. She was born August 2, 1920, near Elgin to Daniel and Celia (Frieden) Butikofer.
Lorraine was united in marriage to Myron Houg April 10, 1947, at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder. Four children were born to this union. They made their home near Elgin where they farmed for many years, moving to town in 1989. Lorraine enjoyed fishing, playing cards, gardening, collecting pencils and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Marvin (Sue) Houg, Cedar Rapids, Marlys (Gordon) Oakland, Ossian, Loren Houg, Dumont and Lowell (Sharon) Houg, Elgin; seven grandchildren, Kaarn (Chad) McCarty, Julie (Jeff) Luzum, Leann Oakland, Michelle (Adam) Nicholas, Heather Houg, Jenna Houg and Quinton Houg; two great-grandchildren, Easton Luzum and Kaylee Nicholas; two brothers, Dan (Anna Marie) Butikofer, Elgin and Silas (Pat) Butikofer, Clermont; a sister, Mabel Thorsgaard, Elkader and a brother-in-law, Merlin Hellum, Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on March 17, 1989, two brothers, Ben and Elmer Butikofer and three sisters, Carrie Trafelet, Leah Schneider and Tillie Hellum.
Funeral services were Monday, July 17 at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder, with Rev. Marshall Hahn officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Music was by Deb Reierson, organist.
Casket Bearers were Robert Halverson, Harold Hanson, Steve Butikofer, Kenneth Butikofer, Albert Hanson and Dean Butikofer.
