A Memorial Service for Kenneth Stewart was held Thursday, March 30, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul United Methodist Church in Elgin, Iowa. The Reverend Arley Ellingson officiated. The organist was Marilanna Sutter and the soloist was Charles Wagner. Inurnment was in God’s Acre Cemetery, rural, Clermont, Iowa, with Military Honors by the Sheehan-Olson American Legion Post 375 of Clermont. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Eugene Stewart was born June 17, 1928, at DeWitt, Iowa, to George Allen and Vera (Foss) Stewart. He passed away Sunday, March 26, 2006, in Allen Memorial Hospital at Waterloo, Iowa, at the age of 77 years, 9 months, and 9 days.
He attended school at DeWitt, entered the U. S. Navy in 1946 until 1949 and enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1949 until 1952. Ken was in Civil Service for 40 years, which included his six years in the military and 34 years in the Postal Service.
On September 8, 1951 Kenny was married to Carol Joyce Youngblood at the home of her parents at Freeport, Iowa, by the Reverend Bruce D. Jones. They were the parents of six children.
Kenny was employed by the United States Postal Service, beginning at Decorah. He took over a rural mail route at Castalia and then added Clermont, where he worked until his retirement. He and Carol had also purchased a grocery store in Castalia, and later bought the grocery store in Clermont. Kenny often helped out in the store when time permitted.
Kenny was active in the community and served as a volunteer fireman for 22 years. He was one of the first EMTs to serve on the Clermont Ambulance Service. He was a member of the Sheehan-Olson American Legion Post 375 of Clermont.
Surviving are his wife, Carol, his six children, Vicki (Jim) Kelly, Park Ridge, IL, Linda (Lou) Alvarado, San Antonio, TX, Debbie (David) Humburg, Seven Hills, OH, Steve Stewart, West Union, IA, Kathy (Randy) Clark, Postville, IA, Robyn (Ben) Ramirez, Las Vegas, NV; 11 grandchildren, Kevin Kelly, Lauren Kelly, James (Barbara) Kelly, Jr., Kimberly (Rick) Duda, Rachel (Sean) Wolfe, Keri (Kimmo) Fuller, Adam (Crissy) Humburg, Aimee Humburg, Amanda Humburg, Diane (Carlos) Guerrero, and Jesse Clark; 12 great grandchildren, and three sisters, Ruby Hall, and Adeline Vigdahl, both of Beloit, WI, and Betty McPeck, Clinton, IA, and a half brother, Richard Weller, who lives in Wisconsin. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a half brother.
