Funeral services for Elaine Voss were held Monday, April 24, 2006, at the W. Clermont Lutheran Church at Clermont, Iowa, with Rev. Dwight Albers officiating. Joe Helgeson was soloist and Joann Martins was organist. Burial was in the Illyria Cemetery, rural Elgin, Iowa. The Schutte Funeral & Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.
Elaine Ardith, the daughter of Emory Oliver Ruroden and Ula Mae (Howard) Ruroden, was born November 3, 1941, in Fayette County, near Elgin. She passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2006, in the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa, at the age of 64.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church in West Union, Iowa. Elaine attended country schools near her home and North Fayette High School in West Union.
In 1958 Elaine was married to Lewis Meyer at West Union. To this union three children were born, Lewis Jr., Mark, and Lisa. They farmed for ten years near Frankville. They were later divorced. In 1981, Elaine married James L. Voss at West Union, and they were later divorced. Elaine enjoyed handwork and knitted various items for her family and friends. Elaine became a member of the Lutheran Church in Eldorado in 1959.
Elaine lived most of her life in Fayette County. She received her Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate and was employed at the Good Samaritan Center in West Union for about 20 years.
She is survived by her children, Lewis Meyer, Jr. and his fiancé, Lori Freeman of Platte City, Mo., Mark (Brenda) Meyer of East Dubuque, Ill., and Lisa Gerleman (Doug Thompson) of Clermont; 12 grandchildren, Stacey and Mitchell Meyer, Clayton Freeman, Nicole and Travis Rovang, Jeremy Quario, Codey and Alysha Meyer, Kendra, Karissa, and Kandis Gerleman, and Derek Thompson; one great-granddaughter, Aubree MacKenzee Quario; two brothers, Wayne (Jane Miene) Ruroden of Waukon and Duane (Helen) Ruroden of Monona; and three sisters, Lorraine Pape of West Union, Karen (Kenneth) Kohls of Clermont, and Dorene (Dean) Peyton of Calmar.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Emory and Ula; a brother-in-law, Dean Pape; two nephews, Jason Peyton and Brett Fonley; and her step-father, Clarion Hilgerson.
Casketbearers were Deano Pape, Kevin Fonley, Jeremy Weiss, Jason Franck, Kyle Kohls, Joe Helgeson, and Bryce Ruroden.
