Friday about noon there occurred on the circus grounds a most sad and unfortunate accident that resulted in the death of one of our good citizens, Henry Grossman. There is a difference of opinion as to just how the accident happened or what the cause. The zebra was loose on the grounds and Henry was on his way home and as he passed the animal it whirled and kicked him on the body with both feet. The force of the blow knocked Henry down and it was only with great difficulty that he reached his home. At first it was thought that he was not badly hurt but as the pain increased, medical aid was summoned and it was found that his condition was critical. A operation was performed Saturday and everything possible was done but all to no avail. He passed away Monday afternoon about 2 o'clock after putting up a hard and gallant fight for life.
Henry William Grossman was born in Clermont, Feb. 20, 1861. On July 20, 1882, he was married to Miss Emma Louden at Elkader. To this union were born 4 sons and 3 daughters, six of whom, with the mother survive; one son, Roy, died in infancy. Besides his family he is survived by three sisters; Mrs. Robert Liebner and Mrs. John McWilliams of McGregor and Mrs. William Kurse of South Dakota, one brother William Cordes of New Hampton and seven grand daughters.
Mr. Grossman was a good, true, honest and upright citizen, a man always devoted to his family and loyal to his friends. The family have the heartfelt sympathy of all in their sad bereavement.
Funeral services were held yesterday at 2 o'clock at the home conducted by Rev. Hjortholm.
