The following account of Hugo Thorman's death is given in the Oakdale (Nebraska) paper, where his death occurred, and by it may be seen that he had there won the same favorable impressions as were retained of him here. He was a strait-forward, conscientious and energetic young man, and his untimely death leaves a deep wound in the hearts of his relatives and friends, which time can never fully efface:
Mr. C. H. Thorman died on the 24th at the residence of his uncle in Cedar precinet, as we understand from a sudden seizure of heart paralysis while suffering from fever. Mr. Thorman lately came from Oelwein, Iowa, having previously bought the old Byron Davis farm just north of Oakdale. A few week since he came into town and was salesman in Beckman's store until he was taken sick. He was a young man of prepossessing appearance, apparently very strong and healthy. We have no knowledge of his standing in Iowa, but have no doubt of it; for his appearance and way of carrying himself, stamped him as a thoroughly upright, honorable, generous, and capable young man, whose untimely taking off must be a crushing grief to friends and a positive loss to the world at largeOelwein Register - September 1888
Note: Burial was at Oakdale Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa.
