Died - At the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. Holroyd, in this city, Saturday night, November 7th (1891), Mr. Edward Webster, aged 80 years. Mr. Webster had been ill only three or four days and was not considered at all dangerous. The cause of death was old age and a general breaking down of the whole system. The deceased was a native of England, being born in 1811. He emigrated to this country in 1840, living two years in New York state, then locating in Pennsylvania, where he resided a few years then came to Iowa, locating in Fayette County, near the present site of Oelwein, where he has resided most of the time for the past thirty years. For the past few years he has been residing with his children at Fayette, and was here on a visit at the time of his death. His wife preceded him to the spirit world about eleven years ago. Their union was blessed with eleven children, only four of whom are living, they being William Webster, Mrs. Luce and Mrs. Fowles, of Fayette, and Mrs. H. Holroyd, of this place. The funeral services were held at the Freewill Baptist church in Oelwein Monday afternoon, after which the remains were interred in the cemetery here. Mr. Webster had experienced many of the hardships of pioneer life and had witnessed the rapid strides made in the growth and development of this country, and after life's fitful fever he sleeps well.
