Alton, George W., farmer, Section 26; PO Eden; born in Broome Co., New York in 1825 and left that State in 1845 and settled in Cook Co., Illinois where he engaged in milling, and married Elizabeth A. Hennings in 1852; she was born in England in 1831; they have three children --- William H. born in 1855; John E. born in 1857; and Reno R. born in 1862; lost two children -- George T. born 1853 and died in 1861; Delbert, born in 1860 and died in 1861. Came to this county in 1853 and settled on his present estate of eighty acres; was one of the earliest settlers, living in a covered wagon until he had built a shanty for their home; his land was all brush, and he is one of the early pioneers.
