Gerken, Henry, farmer, Section 11 (Oran township); PO Oelwein; born in Hanover, Germany, Dec. 28, 1826; came to New Orleans, LA, in 1848; to Morgan Co., MO, in 1849; LaSalle Co, Illinois, in the spring of 1850, and to this county in 1855. He married Mrs. Nancy Sidler in 1854; she was born in Virgina Sept. 1, 1827; they have six children living --- Ellen, born Dec. 21, 1856; John W., born March 1, 1858; Mary A., born June 25, 1863; Nelson A., born Aug. 2, 1865; Liva L. A., born Nov. 16, 1868; Benjamin F., born Feb. 24, 1871. They are members of the United Brethren Church. He has been School Director two years, and Supervisor four years. He owns 301 1/2 acres of land, worth $30 per acre. He is a public spirited citizen.
