Holton, Miles, farmer, Section 32; PO Bethel; born in Ontario Co., New York in 1829. Married Anna Davis in 1867; she was born in Wisconsin in 1845; he first settled in Ohio, where he lived until 1851, when he came to this county and settled near Elgin. Enlisted as a private in 1861 in the Ninth I.S.V., Co. F; participated in the battles of Vicksburg, Arkansas Post, Chickasaw, Atlanta, Bentonville, Dallas and with Sherman in his march to the sea; was in Sherman's corps at the battle of Chattanooga and promoted to Corporal, Sergeant, Orderly First and Second Lieutenant; served until the close of the war and was honorably discharged July 18, 1865. Settled on his present estate in 1869. Has farm of 80 acres, valued at $1,600.
