Staats, J. L., attorney, Section 9; PO Waucoma; born in Ashland Co. in 1850, and came to this county with his father, Joseph C. Staats, in 1851, and is one of the earliest settlers; first located in Bethel Township and subsequently removed to this town, where he has since made it his home; has farm of eighty acres in Section 36, but resides near village of Waucoma. He graduated at the Iowa State University in 1875, and has followed his profession in this villiage since that time, being well known throughout the county. In 1876, he married Mabel Smith; she was born in Columbia Co., Wisconsin in 1858.
