Barthlema, Phillip, farmer, Section 3; PO Old Mission; born in Germany in 1815. Married Sallene Gilteman in 1839; she died in 1853; had three children --- Sallene, Phillip and Sophia; lost one child, Louis. His present wife, Sophia Miller, was born in Germany in 1826; have two children -- Ferdinand and Paulina; lost one child, Hortense. Mr. Barthlema came to this country in 1852, and settled near Pittsburgh, Penn., from which place he went to Missouri and resided until 1857; when he came to this county and settled on his present estate; has a farm of 125 acres, valued at $4,000. Both are members of the Lutheran Protestant Church, and is one of the early settlers.
