Julie, I checked the Emmet County birth records and death records and found that no one named Walterhus was born or died in Emmet County, Iowa. A courthouse fire in 1876 destroyed all previous vital records.
The Emmet County Federal Census record for 1870 or the Emmet County State census record for 1885 could be checked, but that would require a fee for the search. You can search those records, which have been microfilmed, yourself if you are close to a large genealogical library.
