John Helmers
Estherville – Services for John Helmers, 67, Estherville will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. Pastor Steve Wold of Redeemer Lutheran Church will officiate. He died Saturday [January 24, 1982] evening at Holy Family Hospital.

Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Thursday.

Helmers was born May 2, 1904 [1914] at Alpha, Minn. the son of Robert and Thoma (Schuller) Helmers. He received his education in the Estherville schools. On February 14, 1970 he was married to Ruth Hite Kramer at Estherville. He lived here all his life and was a carpenter and used car salesman until being disabled due to ill health.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, Estherville; one daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Janice) Stade, Welcome, Minn., three sons, Larry and Darwood Helmers, Estherville and Russell Helmers of Wichita, Kans.; ten step-children; Mrs. Richard (Rosie) Harris, Jeff Kramer, Carl and Michael Ariston all of Estherville; Mrs. Warren (Linda) Louder, Elkton, S.D., Douglas Kramer, Salem, Wis., Roy Kramer, Superior, David Kramer, Burnsville, Minn., Veronica Giefer, Hastings, Minn., David Ariston, Ft. Sill, Okla.; 35 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Vigdal, Mrs. Ida Olson, Mrs. Nellie Peterson all of Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 25, 1982)
