Estherville – Services for John Metzger, 51, of Estherville will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Thomas Nash officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. He died on Saturday, September 25, 1993 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville. Legion of Mary Rosary service will be held at 4 p.m. and a vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m.
He was born on September 11, 1942 in Algona, the son of John and Maxine (Bollig) Metzger. He received his education and was graduated from Estherville schools. On October 7, 1966 he married Alice Sherling in Estherville.
Metzger lived in the Estherville area most of his life, and was employed with the John Morrel Co. for 22 years. Most recently, he has been employed in Armstrong Rim & Wheel since 1987. An avid gun collector, he enjoyed all things to do with the outdoors.
He was a hunter safety course instructor, a member of the Izaak Walton League and a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, Howard of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Shane of Loveland, Colo.; a daughter, Helen Metzger of Storm Lake; his mother, Maxine Metzger of Estherville; a sister, Carol O’Rorke of Richfield, Minn.; a brother, Howard Metzger of Estherville.
