Estherville – Services for Wilbur B. (Mike) Mickelson, 76, will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville with the Rev. Dr. John P. Besore, III, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. He died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 1990 at Holy Family Hospital.Friends may call at the chapel from 4-9 p.m. Thursday.
He was born Jan. 15, 1914 at Bristow, the son of Carl and Catherine (Pedersen) Mickelson. He attended Estherville Schools graduation in 1932, then attended the University of Iowa at Iowa City where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business On Nov. 11, 1936 he married Dorothy Tims at Estherville. The couple moved to Jackson, Minn. where he owned the greenhouse. In 1947 they sold the Jackson Greenhouse and moved to Estherville where he owned and operated the Estherville Greenhouse until his retirement in 1976.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church; Emmet County Weed Commissioner the past nine years; past president and lifetime member of the Society of Iowa Florists; member of the Park & Recreation Board for 37 years and was honored for his years of service by the board renaming South Riverside Park to W.B. (Mike) Mickelson Park.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, Estherville; three daughters: Meredith Maytum, Spirit Lake; Noel (Noni) Mickelson, Saugus, Calif., and Kay Wilkinson, Covina, Calif.; seven grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Farguson, Balboa Island, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 6, 1990)
