P. Mathisen of Ringsted Killed
Evidently Started to Walk to Ringsted and Was Struck by a Northwestern Train

Last Saturday night at 10 o’clock a freight train on the Northwestern Railway killed Peter Mathisen a prominent farmer living near Ringsted. Mr. Mathinsen had been at Ceylon on business and on arriving at Dolliver he purchased a ticket for Ringsted. After boarding the train he saw an automobile from his home town and went over to ride home with them. They had a full load and he returned to the depot the train having left. It is suppose he started to walk to Ringsted and was struck by the train at Iversons crossing.

Nothing was known of the accident until the train reached Ceylon where the blood and a piece of a mans shirt was discovered on the engine. A party returned on the hand car and found the mutilated body beside the track. The body was taken to Ringsted for burial. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, August 12, 1914)

Train Kills a Laborer
H. P. Mathisen is Run Over Mile North of Dolliver
H. P. Mathisen, a laborer employed near Ringsted was killed one mile north of Dolliver Saturday night by a Northwestern freight train.

He had gone to Ceylon, Minn., on the morning train in company with about a dozen other young men. Mathisen missed the train home and started to walk. It is supposed that he sat down on this track to rest and fell asleep. His head and right leg were severed.

The remains were taken to an undertaking establishment in this city and held here until two brothers came from Elkhorn. They arrived Monday morning and on account of the body being mangled so he was buried here Monday. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 12, 1914)
