Death of Ada Littell

Miss Ada Littell died yesterday afternoon at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Littell, in this city, after a lingering illness of several months with consumption. Her death had been expected almost daily for several weeks and although it was expected, to the family it was a severe shock, as death always is. Until taken sick several months ago, Miss Ada was one of the brightest and healthiest appearing young ladies in Estherville. About a year ago she won with honors the medal in the district declamatory contest at Anamosa and was a great favorite among her associates. At the time of her death she was eighteen years of age. A father and mother, sister and brother are left to mourn her untimely death. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o’clock in the Methodist church and the remains laid to rest in the Oak Hill Cemetery [cemetery records and gravestone indicate and East Side burial]. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, April 22, 1903)

Miss Ada Littell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Littell, died April 22, 1903. A loving daughter has been carried by the angels from Estherville and presented unto the king in raiment of needlework. The grave may claimits kindred dust, but that is all; it cannot cover up a single ray of her bright life. Death may stop the human heart from beating, but the soul that loved so tenderly is still loving on in that bright kind of kindred spirits. He many set his seal of silence here on lips of love, but that sweet voice that spoke so kindly is now singing praise to Jesus in glory. Thos lips of the soul that death can never seal sometimes seem to whisper back to us and say, “O! immortality is so wonderful, wonderful! Heaven is so beautiful, we are so joyful and happy and Jesus is so glorious, the chief among ten thousand and altogether lovely.” I have the pleasure of sending heaven’s greetings to my sorrowing friends of earth. – Mrs. Wm. Shreeve (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, April 29, 1903)
