Jacob Herum was born in Dane county, Wisconsin, January 24, 1862, to Peter E. and Bertha Herum. Died April 1, 1925, at the age of sixty-three years, two months and seven days. He came with his parents to Emmet county in the month of June 1870. Was married to Ina M. Bauge of Estherville, Iowa on the last day of July, 1896. To this union five children were born of which all are living, Percy of Dolliver, Joseph, Raymond, Robert and Margaret all staying at home. He was baptized in infancy by Rev. Lars Johnson, confirmed on the third day of November 1878 by Rev. H. C. Olson.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife and five children; four brothers, Andrew of Randall, Minn., Bert of Graettinger, Iowa; Henry and Christ of Manley, Iowa and three sisters, Mrs. P. S. Anderson, Mrs. Anfin Egeland and Miss Bertha Herum, all of Estherville, Iowa.

Funeral services were held April 4th, both from the home and from the Lutheran church in Wallingford. Pall bearers were Edwin N. Iverson, Lewis Iverson, Osher Osher, Albert Christopher, Lewis Peterson and O. O. Refsell.

A great host of friends and relatives were present to pay the last honor and tribute to Mr. Herum. The casket was laden with floral wreaths and bouquets given by the dear ones and relatives and friends. Services at the home were conducted by Rev. Hanson and assisted by Rev. G. O. Paulsrud from Randall, Iowa. The choir rendered a few beautiful songs very appropriate for the occasion and Mrs. Nelson and her brother Fred Wolden sang a duet entitled "The Home of the Soul." This song Mr. Herum had loved to hear for several years and therefore by request of the family it was also sung at the funeral.

He was laid to rest at the Lutheran cemetery where his body will rest till resurrection morning.

May the loving Saviour console the sorrowing family and bring into their hearts the longing for the beautiful home that is prepared for all who seek Him and longs for the future life to come.
