Mrs. Emma French Dies Following Long Illness
Mrs. Emma Jane French, 65, died Thursday afternoon [Dec. 27, 1945] at 3:45 at her home [15 West South 2nd Street] after being ill since last March.
Emma Jane Patterson was born Jan. 3, 1881 at Elwood, Clinton county, [Iowa] a daughter of Samuel G. and Mary J. Hines Patterson, [both of whom were born in Pennsylvania.]
At an early age she moved, with her parents, to Clay county where she received her education. At the age of 15 she joined the Church of Christ at Spencer.
On April 3, 1901, and in 1910 they moved to Estherville where they have lived since. Mr. French died Oct. 13, 1936.
Survivors include two daughters, Beatrice R. (Mrs. L. L. Jones) of Estherville and Jessie L. (Mrs. C. D. McIntera) of Marcus; a son, Irvin W. French of Estherville; a sister, Mrs. C. R. Barnes of Spencer; two brothers, E. S. Patterson, Spencer and G. A. Patterson of Mitchell, S.D. and six grandchildren, Kenneth L. Jones, with the navy in Japan; Katherine Butler, Marcus; Charles R., Bernard K., Lawrence J. Jones and Gerald W. French, all of Estherville.
Mrs. French was preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters, Malawa Patterson, Mary M. Denison and Hattie, who died in infancy.
