Janet M. Ekren, 59, of Estherville, died Friday, February 7, 2003 at Avera McKennan hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services were Tuesday, February, 11, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Grandview Baptist Church in Estherville with Joel Jorgensen officiating. Burial was at East Side Cemetery, Estherville, Visitation was Monday, February 10 at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home.

Janet was born on October 19, 1943 in Cherokee to Merlin Arthur Young and Marion Maxine Woltman. She received her education in the Cherokee school, graduating from Cherokee High school in 1962. Later she attended Iowa Lakes Community College and Buena Vista College.

Janet lived most of her life in Cherokee and Estherville, On May 3, 1963, she was united in marriage to Dennis D. Ekren in Cherokee. She was employed at J.C. Penney in Cherokee and then later as a baby-sitter at Union Baptist Church in Estherville. For hobbies Janet enjoyed quilting, collecting antiques and bingo.

She attended Grandview Baptist Church in Estherville.

She is survived by her children, Denise Ehrig of Spenger; Dawn Titus and her husband Darrell of Wallingford, Iowa; Deena Manz and her husband Phil of Ayrshire, Iowa; Doug Ekren and his wife Fatma of Las Vegas; eleven grandchildren, Nathan, Elizabeth, Shelby, Tyler, Douglas Jr., Desiree, Devon, Darilyn, Ashley, Alexia, Phillip Jr., her dog Shadow and brothers and sisters: Kathy Kraft and her husband Woody of Lakefield, Minn., Jim Young and his wife Carol of Jackson, Minn., Steve Young and his wife Laura of Estherville; and Jill Arends and her husband Rod of Estherville.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
