Jean Cummins Brock was born on March 11, 1931 on a farm near Ceylon, Minnesota to Opal (Wolford) and Herman Lubenow and departed this life on September 15, 2021 at Valley View Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa at the age of 90 years.

Jean was baptized in the Methodist Church in Ceylon and confirmed in her faith in 1944. Following her graduation from Ceylon High School in 1949, she attended Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jean worked at Swift & Co and Railroad Motors in Fairmont, Minnesota. She later worked at Berkley’s in Spirit Lake, Iowa, the Graettinger Times, Graettinger, Iowa, and then the café in Ringsted, Iowa for 17 years.

Jean married Darrel Cummins on October 29, 1951, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota while he was enlisted in the Marines. Together they spent time in California before they returned to Ringsted in 1958. They were blessed with four children. Darrel passed away in 1989. Jean wed Jim Brock in 1998, he passed away in 2009. Jean became a resident of Valley View Care Center in 2019.

Jean was a member at the Ringsted Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for over 25 years and was a past Elder, Trustee, and Past President of the Ladies’ Aide. She was also a past member of the CCC and Past President of the Ringsted Auxiliary.

Left to cherish Jean’s memory are her children David Cummins of Gibson, Iowa, Paul Cummins of Ringsted; Lois (Ivan Klingenberg) Williams of Armstrong; four grandchildren Tanya, Brandee, Bethany, and Dustin; ten great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her brother Herman (Donna) Lubenow; sister Merry (Butch) Osmond; sisters-in-law Bonnie Cummins and Laurel Lea Cummins; stepson Tom Brock; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and double cousin Nancy Steele.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Darrel and Jim, two infant brothers, son Richard Cummins, stepson Robert Brock, six brothers-in-law, and many extended family members.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the First Presbyterian church in Ringsted with interment at Ringsted Memorial Cemetery, Ringsted.
