Carol Ann (Huber) Hum 1938- 2021

Carol Ann Hum, daughter of Raymond and Lucille (Gordon) Huber, was born on August 8, 1938 in Corworth, Iowa. She passed away on August 13, 2021 at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa at the age of 83.

Carol attended and graduated from Buffalo Center High School in Buffalo Center, Iowa and then attended one year of nurse’s training. On January 31, 1959 she was united in marriage to Lyle Hum in Buffalo Center. The couple made their home in Estherville and raised their family there.

Carol was active in her community. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and taught CCD classes for many years. She was also a 4-H Leader. Carol served as a board member of the Emmet County Case Management Advisory Board as well as the Christian Woman’s Club.

Teaching Karate brought great joy to Carol’s life, she enjoyed that for 30 years and was a Second Degree Black Belt. She was a member of the ISFK Karate Association. Carol also enjoyed taking walks around town. Carol had a talent for sewing, she created many beautiful wedding and bridesmaid’s dresses for family and friends from her own patterns. There were many flower beds in front of Carol’s home and she took great pride in taking care of them.

Left to cherish Carol’s memory are her daughters Melody Orris of LeMars, Iowa, Sandy (Valere) Holtan of Forest City, Iowa, Angela (Calvin) Jones of Jasper, Minnesota, Rebecca (Terry) Sathoff of Armstrong,Iowa; daughter-in-law Stephanie Hum of Jasper, Minnesota, 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Lydia Eaton of Estherville, Iowa and sister-in-law Patricia Huber of Payola, Kansas.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lyle, her sons Tom Hum and Lee Hum, and her brothers Paul Huber and Kenneth Huber.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church ub Estherville with interment at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Estherville.
