A graveside service for Evelyn N. (Hakeman) Pape was held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Armstrong Grove Cemetery, Armstrong Grove Township, Emmet, Iowa.
Evelyn N. Pape, daughter of Walter Owen and Libbie Francis (Prazak) Hakeman, was born on June 29, 1925 in Belle Plaine, Iowa. She passed away at Valley View Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa on August 4, 2020 at the age of 95 years.
Evelyn and her family lived in Belle Plaine until she was about 12 years old. The family then moved to Armstrong, Iowa where she graduated from high school. Evelyn was a secretary for Dr. Turner’s office in Armstrong. On July 14, 1946 she was united in marriage to Frank “Bud” Pape at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Evelyn was a post office clerk in Armstrong for many years, retiring in 1972. Every summer the family would take a two-week vacation, visiting every state in the continental United States before their children were adults, and eventually all the states as a family. Evelyn and Bud continued to live in Armstrong following their retirements. Bud passed away on December 24, 2003.
Evelyn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Armstrong. She enjoyed being a part of many groups including: the American Legion Auxiliary, Wednesday Study Club, S.O. Club, and T.H.O. Bridge Club. She was a 50 plus year member of the Eastern Star Organization. Evelyn loved going to casinos, wanting to stop at any that she saw while on road trips. She enjoyed playing cards with her Armstrong friends, including 7-Up and Garbage.
Evelyn is survived by her children: Dennis (Linda) Pape of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Kevin (Denise) Pape of Armstrong, Iowa, and Kimberly (Gary) Grabianowski of Parker, Colorado; her grandchildren Nicole (Julian Einfrank) Grabianowski, Tanner Grabianowski, Kriston (Beth) Pape, Korrin (Eric) Snyder, Kelsey (Ryan) Kern, Jessica (John) Kinzer, Joshua (Jessica) Pape, and Michael (Amanda) Webster; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank Pape.
