Jerome John Pohlen, the son of Joseph Anthony and Frances (Croatt) Pohlen, was born May 4, 1928 in Linn Grove, Iowa. He died on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at his home at Windsor Manor in Estherville at the age of 92.

He received his education and graduated from Linn Grove High School. Following high school, he attended Creighton University where he received his master’s degree.

On June 29, 1950 he was united in marriage to Ethel Neppl at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville. Over the years the couple lived in several towns while Jerry served in the Military. Along the way, they adopted their five children. Ethel and Jerry settled in the McLean, Virginia and Washington, D.C. area for several years and had several foster children while living in McLean. The couple retired in Destin, Florida. Ethel passed away in 2019.

Jerome was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, American Legion, American Military Society, Knights of Columbus, and Chair of the Special Olympics.

Left to cherish Jerome's memory are his children, Maggie (Kim) Kazel-Pipitone of Holyoke, Minnesota; Geralyn (Tom) Osoba of Parker, Colorado; Thomas Jeffrey Pohlen of Bloomington, Indiana; Mark Jerome Pohlen of New Orleans, Louisiana; Jacqueline (Mark) Klepper of Milford, Iowa; five grandchildren, Angela, John, Ashley, Kelly, Lani; three great grandchildren, Olivia, Fran, Bane; sisters-in-law, Laurie Pohlen, Barbara Pohlen, Rita Fox, Dorothy Neppl and several nieces and nephews.

He has been preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings, Paul, Andrew, Suzanne, Michael, and Joseph.

Funeral service was held Saturday, August 22, 2020 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville, Iowa with burial at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.
